Abstract: This article introduces the Fibonacci numbers through Leonardo da Pisa's original `breeding of rabbits' problem of 1202. Some mathematical properties of the numbers are outlined briefly. Examples of their manifestations in physics, biology and botany are presented, in particular the reconstruction of the sunflower head.
